Vi Hilbert was born July 24, 1918, in Upper Skagit, as an only child to Charlie and Louise Anderson. Vi was a Mother of three, Denny, Lois, and Ron. Growing up, Vi went to 15 different schools. Vi was a story-teller, linguist, a Fluent speaker in Lushootseed and co-author of the second Lushootseed dictionary, advisor on the first one and an Vi Hilbert’s traditional name in Lushootseed, prounounced somewhat like TAWKW-shuh-blue . It is impossible to talk about the revitalization of the Lushootseed language without mentioning the incredible life-long work of Vi Hilbert.
